The Currys Music

From the Blog

Heading west… (of here)

Spring has turned to summer! April and May saw us touring all around our old haunts in Florida, including stops at Rock By The Sea, a charity music festival in the Panhandle, and the Florida Folk Festival, a weekend showcasing the songwriting of Florida artists and honoring the oeuvres of Florida legends. Those two events are among our favorites for their incredible communities of musicians and music appreciators, and we’re thrilled to be included every year.

With the rains of early June, we returned to the farm in central New York to continue work on our upcoming album. Progress has been slow but steady. Over the course of nine days, we worked tirelessly, tracking background vocals, over-dubbing mandolin, dialing in electric guitar tones, writing midi arrangements for strings and keys, and planning parts for auxiliary instruments like dobro, B3 organ, and horns. The songs are coming together such that some of our attention has turned to bigger picture concerns: What should the album be titled? What images from the music should be reflected in the artwork? Which songs make the final cut? It’s an exciting and, at times, overwhelming process, but the pieces are gradually falling into place.

At this point every year, after the cessation of pollen has left us red-eyed and relieved and the deluges of spring have given way to the blistering days of summer, we Currys set our sights on a road trip. This year is no exception. The temperature in Charlottesville has ambitions for 90+° F, and we’re escaping the mid-summer heat wave by heading out west (west of here, you might say), to such exotic destinations as:

Floyds Knobbs, IN

Des Moines, IA

Durango, CO

Westcliffe, CO

Denver, CO

Steelville, MO

Pittsburgh, PA

(Psst! Check our ‘SHOWS‘ page for details!)

If you’re on route, come hang out! We’re really excited to see some of our Western audiences again after such a long spell of touring on the Eastern seaboard. Hope you can make it!
