Back from the Boat!

Photo above shows Jimmy reading aloud to Sebastian on a private island in Belize. That’s right–Jimmy can read.   Hello, everyone! Long time, no talk! We’ve had a very busy February thus far, and I fell down on the job of keeping the blog updated. Mea culpa. Here’s a quick recap of the past few weeks: We spent the weekend before Valentine’s Day on the high seas with thirty other bands and 2,500 of the most enthusiastic music appreciators we’ve ever…Read More

Songwriting with a fury

If you’ve made it out to a Currys show in the past couple months, you no doubt have heard about the winter songwriting challenge and online concert series that we have planned. Here are the basics: We spent almost all of 2016 on the road supporting the release of West of Here. Performing and traveling was a blast, but it didn’t leave us with much time to write and develop new material. For the last few months of last year, we were pining for…Read More

Official showcase at Folk Alliance!

We’re pleased to announce that we’ve been selected for an official showcase at the 2017 Folk Alliance International Conference in Kansas City, Missouri! We’re thrilled and honored to be selected to a group of artists that includes the likes of John McCutcheon, Sara Watkins, The Steel Wheels, Tift Merritt, and The Sea The Sea. We will also be joined in the frigid February Midwestern weather by some friends and fellow artists with whom we have previously shared a stage, including Flagship Romance, Front Country, and Lindsay Lou & the…Read More

We’re on a boat!

We’re going cruisin’! After a week of public voting, and then another week of private voting by cruise ticket holders, we were selected as one of three bands to win the Sixthman Soundcheck competition for a spot on The Rock Boat music cruise next February! Yeehaw! We’re thrilled to be included, and very grateful to everyone who cast a vote for us. We owe a very special thanks to Beth Gosnell, who got us involved in this community initially by inviting us to…Read More

The Rock Boat Soundcheck semi-finalists!

We’ve been named on the short list for a music cruise next year! The Rock Boat is essentially the lovechild of a Caribbean cruise and a music festival, featuring such acts as Parachute, Sister Hazel, and Andy Grammer. We’ve been selected as semi-finalists for The Rock Boat’s Soundcheck competition, specifically designed for up-and-comers who haven’t been on the Boat before. We’re excited to be in the running, especially since so many of our friends from the Rock By The Sea charity…Read More

All rocked out by the sea

We. Are. Beat. This past weekend we had the pleasure of performing at Rock By The Sea 10, the tenth annual charity music festival on St. George Island, Florida. It was five straight days of live performances, great causes, beach games, and new friends–five straight days of going to bed too late, getting up too early, and then doing it all over again. It was an exhausting, happy blast, and we felt so warmly welcomed. Now we need to sleep for…Read More

We’ve got something to show you…

Last week we officially released our sophomore album West of Here, and in conjunction with the album release, we’re digitally re-branding! We’ve got a new official “The Currys” logo (see webpage header and album cover) and a brand-spanking new website (you’re on it!) compliments of graphic/web design wunderkind Christa Albano. Plus, we’ll have the new album and a collection of new merchandise–including T-shirts and koozies–available at all our official CD release shows. This past weekend saw us in the Big Apple, and before the…Read More

Official release: “West of Here”!

Today, finally, marks the official release of our sophomore album West of Here! Many of you who contributed to our Kickstarter campaign or attended a pre-release show in Virginia have obtained an advance copy, but we’re excited to finally share the album with everyone else. It has been just under two years since we released our debut, Follow, in which time we have been dutifully writing, recording, and preparing to release these new songs. They mean a lot to us, and we hope you all enjoy…Read More

Single premiere: “Firestarter”

The second single from West of Here drops today! Galen’s “Firestarter” can be heard exclusively at Elmore Magazine and starting tomorrow will be available for streaming on Soundcloud. The good folks over at Elmore were kind enough to write up a brief band profile and review. Here’s a teaser: “When [The Currys] began, they stuck close to roots, with a strict focus on heavy harmonies and layered instrumentation of the mandolin and guitar. Now, with a growing fan base behind them, thanks in part to national tours that…Read More
