It’s official: The Currys and Optics for the Tropics are returning to Cuba in January 2025! Last January the Currys teamed up with Joni Ellis and her nonprofit to escort over forty friends and fans around the western part of the island, from Havana to the Bay of Pigs. This coming winter, we will be traveling to the eastern shore, visiting Santiago de Cuba and Guantanamo Bay. We had an incredible experience with our fellow travelers last time–so much so that many of them will be returning with us! There are only a few spots left, so grab ’em fast.
But wait–there’s more! We are also coordinating with the organization Fearless Journeys to lead a trip to Guatemala! Our fellow Cuba traveler Francisco Gonzalez operates Fearless Journeys and has made Guatemala his home away from home. This trip will provide the opportunity to enjoy both cultural immersion and creature comforts, including a stay on the banks of Lago de Atitlan, a beautiful mountain lake ringed by ancient (dormant!) volcanos. Just a short plane ride from Florida, Guatemala is another part of the world that feels so foreign and distant, but is only just beyond our backyard. We’re thrilled to have the opportunity to share our first trip with many of you!
The dates for these excursions are:
Cuba: January 9th – 16th
Guatemala: January 18th – 25th

We published conversations with Joni and Francisco on our podcast feed about what to expect for these trips. In the episode, they explain their backgrounds, describe the trips, and answer a lot of FAQs:
