If you’ve made it out to a Currys show in the past couple months, you no doubt have heard about the winter songwriting challenge and online concert series that we have planned. Here are the basics: We spent almost all of 2016 on the road supporting the release of West of Here. Performing and traveling was a blast, but it didn’t leave us with much time to write and develop new material. For the last few months of last year, we were pining for some time off of the road and back in the writers’ room.
Enter 2017. Starting this week, we three–with some assistance from our cohorts in creative crime, Sebastian and Sam–will return to songwriting with a fury. Our plan is to write, arrange, and record one new original song per week through the remaining winter months. It’s going to be a whole bunch of work, but we’re excited to sink our teeth deeply into new material.
Additionally, we’re going to pull back the veil and give you peek at the songwriting and arranging process with weekly online concerts! Every Tuesday at 9pm EST we’ll be going live on Concert Window to share the new original(s) and fill some audience requests. And the best part: If you tip a set amount through Concert Window, you’ll receive an mp3 of the new song! Tip at a slightly higher level, and you’ll also receive an mp3 of the cover of the week (which may be an old fan fav or a new cover song we’re putting together). The recordings will just be demos, tracked in Tommy’s bedroom in our short-term Charlottesville lease (the picture above is from within our ad-hoc isolation booth; below are a couple shots from outside), but they will give you something to chew on while we take a break from traveling for the upcoming months.
Of course, we won’t be eschewing the road entirely. Between now and April, we’ll be sailing the high seas (on The Rock Boat), road-tripping to the Midwest (for the FAI Conference), and playing a few weekends along the eastern seaboard. Check out the ‘Shows’ page for all the dates and deets! And come hang with us at our first online concert next Tuesday, January 31st!
